Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics
AL-ADABIYAH: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam is a peer-reviewed journal committed to research integrity and ethical scholarly publishing. This statement sets out the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, together with procedures for addressing allegations of misconduct and concerns about published articles.
The journal’s ethical practices are informed by guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
Scholarly publishing depends on accurate reporting, fair evaluation, appropriate acknowledgement of contributions, and accountability. All parties involved in the publication process must uphold these principles.
The publisher, Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, supports the editorial team in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Advertising, publication charges, and other commercial considerations must not influence editorial decisions. The publisher and editors may cooperate with other journals, institutions, and responsible bodies when necessary to resolve ethical concerns.
Allegations of Research Misconduct
Research and publication misconduct may include fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, misrepresentation of authorship, unjustified duplicate publication, and manipulation of peer review.
The journal assesses allegations concerning submitted manuscripts and published articles fairly and on the basis of available evidence. An allegation alone does not establish misconduct.
Reporting and Initial Assessment
Concerns should identify the manuscript or article, explain the suspected problem, and provide supporting evidence where available. Reports may be submitted to the editorial office at imronfauzi@uinkhas.ac.id.
Editors will assess the relevance and credibility of the concern, preserve relevant records, and consider any conflicts of interest affecting the assessment. Case information will be shared only with those who need it for examination or investigation.
Author Responses and Further Examination
When further examination is warranted, the corresponding author will be informed of the concerns and asked to provide an explanation and relevant supporting materials on behalf of the authors.
Editors may consult independent specialists or refer matters requiring formal investigation to the relevant institutions. Manuscript processing may be suspended while significant concerns remain unresolved.
Outcomes
Editorial action will depend on the evidence and the effect on the integrity or reliability of the work. Actions may include requests for clarification or revision, manuscript rejection, publication of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, and referral to the relevant institution.
Honest errors and scholarly disagreements will be distinguished from misconduct wherever the evidence permits. The purpose of editorial action is to maintain an accurate scholarly record.
Complaints and Appeals
The journal considers complaints concerning editorial procedures, reviewer conduct, publication decisions, and suspected ethical violations.
Complaints should be sent to imronfauzi@uinkhas.ac.id, identifying the relevant manuscript or article and explaining the concern with supporting information.
Authors appealing an editorial decision should explain the grounds for reconsideration and identify any factual misunderstanding, new evidence, or material procedural error. Disagreement with a decision alone does not establish grounds for reversal.
Complaints involving the handling editor must be referred to an uninvolved editor or an appropriate publisher representative. Relevant parties may be asked to provide explanations, and the outcome will be communicated as appropriate.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions
Editors decide which manuscripts should be published based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, relevance to the journal, and reviewers’ recommendations.
Editors may consult other editors or reviewers when necessary. Decisions must respect applicable journal policies and requirements concerning copyright, plagiarism, confidentiality, and ethical research.
Fair Play
Editors assess manuscripts on their intellectual content without discrimination based on authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political views.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential. Information may be shared only with the corresponding author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, editorial advisers, the publisher, or other authorised parties where necessary for legitimate editorial or ethical assessment.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors must disclose financial or non-financial interests that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, their assessment of a manuscript. Relevant interests may include personal relationships, recent collaboration, supervisory relationships, institutional connections, academic competition, or financial involvement.
An editor with a relevant conflict must withdraw from handling the manuscript and making the associated decision. The manuscript must be assigned to an uninvolved editor.
Manuscripts submitted by editors, editorial board members, or individuals with close connections to the handling editor must undergo independent editorial assessment and the journal’s usual peer review process. Editorial positions must not confer preferential treatment.
Unpublished materials and confidential information obtained through editorial work must not be used for personal or professional advantage. Unpublished materials must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s express written consent.
Concerns about an editor’s undisclosed conflict must be assessed by an uninvolved editor or an appropriate publisher representative.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making publication decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts. Reviewers should provide clear, constructive, and evidence-based assessments.
Promptness
Invited reviewers who lack the necessary expertise or cannot complete the review within the requested period should promptly notify the editor and decline the assignment.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shared or discussed with others without editorial authorisation.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews must assess the scholarly content of the manuscript objectively. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with reasoned arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been appropriately acknowledged. They should notify the editor of suspected plagiarism, substantial overlap with other publications, or other concerns affecting the manuscript’s originality or integrity.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must disclose relevant interests before accepting an assignment and inform the editor if a conflict becomes apparent during review.
Reviewers should decline assignments when personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other relationships could compromise impartiality. Confidential information obtained through peer review must not be used for personal advantage.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of their research and an objective discussion of its significance. Methods and supporting information should be described sufficiently to enable scholarly evaluation and, where appropriate, replication.
Fabrication, falsification, and knowingly inaccurate reporting are unacceptable.
Data Access, Retention, and Reproducibility
Authors may be asked to provide research data or supporting materials for editorial assessment. They should retain relevant records for a reasonable period and make data available where practicable.
Data sharing must respect participant consent, confidentiality, ethical approval, and applicable restrictions. Any limitations on access should be explained.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must submit original work and appropriately cite or quote material obtained from other sources. This requirement applies to ideas, text, data, images, and other research materials.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
Substantial overlap with previously published work must be disclosed and appropriately referenced. Any proposed republication requires editorial consideration and the necessary permissions.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must acknowledge the work of others and cite sources relevant to their research. References must accurately support the associated claims. Fabricated references and citation manipulation are unacceptable.
Authorship and Contributorship of the Article
Authorship must reflect substantive intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. Each listed author must:
-
Make a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of research materials or data.
-
Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising its intellectual content.
-
Approve the final version submitted for publication.
-
Accept responsibility for their contribution and cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the work.
All individuals who meet these criteria must be included as authors. Funding acquisition, administrative assistance, general supervision, language editing, or technical support alone does not qualify an individual for authorship. Other contributions should be acknowledged with the contributors’ permission.
Authors should agree on the author order before submission and provide a statement describing their respective contributions. Guest, honorary, gift, and ghost authorship are unacceptable.
The corresponding author must ensure that the author list and affiliations are accurate, that all authors approve the submission and substantive revisions, and that editorial correspondence is communicated to all co-authors.
Requests to add or remove authors or change their order must include an explanation and written agreement from all affected authors. Such changes require editorial approval. Changes after publication may require a formal correction.
If an authorship dispute arises, the journal may suspend manuscript processing and refer unresolved questions about contributions to the relevant institutions. An authorship dispute alone does not ordinarily justify retraction when the findings remain reliable.
Artificial intelligence tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain responsible for the manuscript and must disclose AI use in accordance with the journal’s Artificial Intelligence Policy.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose financial or non-financial interests that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, the research or its interpretation.
All funding sources must be identified, together with any role the funder played in the research or publication process. If no relevant conflicts exist, authors should explicitly state this in the manuscript.
Fundamental Errors in Published Work
Authors who discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work must promptly notify the editor or publisher and cooperate in assessing whether a correction or retraction is required.
Ethical Oversight
Research involving human participants, including students, teachers, and members of educational or religious communities, must follow applicable ethical requirements.
Authors must report ethical approval where required and explain the relevant consent procedures. Appropriate permission, parental or guardian consent, and participant assent must be obtained where applicable when research involves children or other vulnerable participants.
Personal and confidential information must be protected. Publication of identifiable information requires appropriate consent. Research involving animals or potentially hazardous materials must also meet the relevant ethical and safety requirements.
Intellectual Property and Copyright
Authors must obtain permission to reproduce copyrighted material where required and acknowledge its source.
The journal’s copyright and licensing terms are available in the Copyright Notice and License.
Peer Review Process Policy
The journal applies a double-blind peer review process. Details are available in the Peer Review Process policy.
Post-Publication Discussions
The journal welcomes constructive, evidence-based discussion of published articles.
Readers may submit comments or criticism to the Editor-in-Chief at imronfauzi@uinkhas.ac.id. Submissions should identify the article, explain the issues raised, provide supporting references where appropriate, and disclose relevant conflicts of interest.
Editors assess contributions for relevance, clarity, scholarly value, and supporting evidence. Personal attacks and unsupported accusations are unacceptable. Authors will normally be invited to respond to substantive criticism.
Accepted contributions may be published as a Letter to the Editor or another suitable format, together with an author response where available. Published discussions and responses should identify and link to the original article.
When a discussion identifies a significant error or possible misconduct, the concern will also be assessed under the relevant correction or misconduct procedures.
Retraction and Correction
The journal addresses significant problems discovered after publication through notices that explain the issue and identify the affected article.
Corrections
A correction may address a limited error while the article’s principal findings remain reliable. Authors should report errors promptly, identifying the affected passages and proposed amendments.
Editors assess the request and publish a linked notice when warranted. Substantive changes will not be made silently.
Retractions
Retraction may be necessary when findings are unreliable, substantial plagiarism is established, publication is redundant without justification, research is unethical, or the publication process has been seriously compromised.
Editors examine the evidence, seek author responses where appropriate, and may consult institutions or specialists. The final editorial decision need not depend on author agreement.
A retraction notice identifies the article, states the reasons and who is retracting it, and links to the original. The article normally remains accessible and clearly marked as retracted.
Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may alert readers to significant unresolved questions while further evidence or investigation is awaited. It will be updated when an outcome becomes available.
Reporting Concerns
Requests should be submitted through the journal’s Contact page. Authors are expected to cooperate with editorial enquiries and provide relevant supporting records.
